4 Card Ideas Using the Botanical Expressions Die

The Botanical Expressions Die might just be my favourite product offering in the July Online Exclusives.

I love how unique and versatile this die is. With a few simple changes, it can create cards that feel clean and elegant or layered and detailed. I recently needed to make a few sympathy cards, so I challenged myself to see how many different looks I could create using the same die.

The first two cards feature a simple, elegant layout where changing the designer series paper completely transforms the finished design. Then I took the die in a different direction, adding layers, die-cut elements and embellishments to create two cards with a whole new look and feel.

Whether you prefer clean and simple, or a little more detail, I hope these projects inspire you to look at your dies in new ways.

Soft & Simple Sympathy

When I create sympathy cards, I tend to reach for simple layouts with soft colours and subtle texture. I want the design to feel peaceful and supportive, allowing the sentiment to be the focus.

For these two cards, I used exactly the same layout but changed the designer paper behind the Botanical Expressions Die. It's amazing how one simple change creates a completely different mood. The Barely Blush Shimmer paper adds warmth and elegance, while the Gray Granite marbled paper creates a calm, serene feel.

These cards are a great reminder that you don't always need a new sketch. Sometimes changing the paper is all it takes to create a fresh design.

Adding Layers & Interest

After creating the sympathy cards, I wanted to see how the die would work in a completely different style. Instead of keeping the design clean and minimal, I added layers and dimension to create more visual interest.

The Botanical Expressions Die creates beautiful movement on its own, but adding the butterfly accents helps guide your eye across the card and brings the design to life. The Barely Blush background peeking through the die-cut openings adds just enough contrast while keeping the overall look elegant.

This card shows how the same die can take on a completely different personality with just a few extra layers.

A Little Pop of Cheer

Of course, not every card needs to be soft and subtle! For this design, I paired the botanical elements with a bright little ladybug and a cheerful sentiment from the Springtime Scenes bundle for a completely different feel.

I love how the leafy die cuts frame the sentiment without overwhelming it, while the pop of red from the ladybug immediately draws your eye. It's a fun reminder that botanical products aren't just for sympathy or thinking-of-you cards—they can work beautifully for uplifting, everyday occasions too.

Final Thoughts

One of my favourite things about crafting is discovering just how many ways one product can be used. Exploring different layouts, papers, colours and embellishments helps me get even more value from the supplies I already own.

The Botanical Expressions Die definitely proved its versatility with these four cards, and I know I'll be reaching for it again.

I hope these projects inspire you to pull out your favourite dies and see just how many different looks you can create with them.

Happy Stamping!
