Butterfly Card Techniques
One of my favourite things about the All Aflutter Bundle is how many different looks you can create with just a few simple techniques.
1. Change the Look with Colour
One of the quickest ways to give your butterflies a completely different personality is by changing how you colour them.
For this card, I used Shimmer Brushes in Hydrangea Hue and Golden Glow. The shimmer is subtle in person, but catches the light beautifully and adds just enough sparkle without overwhelming the design.
You could also colour them with Stampin’ Blends for colour variations.
Tip: Try colouring a few butterflies in different colour combinations before deciding which ones to use on your card.
2. Try Two-Step Stamping
The All Aflutter Bundle offers more than one way to create beautiful butterflies. Along with images that are perfect for colouring, it also includes coordinating stamps for two-step stamping.
Simply stamp the outline, add the solid image in a coordinating ink colour, and you'll have a beautifully detailed butterfly in seconds—no colouring required.
To make things even easier, the coordinating punch cuts out each butterfly perfectly. Whether you choose to colour your images or use the two-step stamps, the punch makes creating dimensional embellishments quick and effortless.
Tip: Mix coloured butterflies with two-step stamped ones on the same project for added variety and interest.
3. Give Your Butterflies Some Life
This might be my favourite trick!
After punching or die-cutting your butterflies, gently curl the wings using a bone folder. It only takes a few seconds, but it makes such a difference. Instead of lying flat on the card, the butterflies look like they're about to flutter away.
Sometimes it's the smallest details that make a handmade card feel extra special.
The Finished Card
The finished design combines the Bloom Boutique Designer Series Paper, layered Hydrangea Hue and Basic White cardstock and 3 dimensional butterflies for a clean, elegant card that's perfect for letting someone know you're thinking of them.
For the background on this card, I added another layer of interest by stamping the butterfly image repeatedly using stamped-off ink. Stamping once on scrap paper before stamping onto the cardstock creates a softer, more subtle impression that adds texture without competing with the focal butterflies.
I love cards that look detailed but are actually made from a handful of simple techniques—and this one is exactly that.
